The New York Giants are off to their best start since 2009 by improving their record to 4-1 after defeating the Green Bay Packers in London on Sunday morning.
Big Blue scored 17 unanswered points late in the game to secure the come-from-behind victory over the reigning NFL MVP, Aaron Rodgers. Great performances by quarterback Daniel Jones and the defense propelled the Giants in Week 5.
Daniel Jones played his best game of 2022 thus far completing 21 of 27 passes for 217 yards. This was his first game throwing for over 200 yards this season. Jones avoided the pressure and kept his eyes down the field making key throws in big-time moments. The former Duke Blue Devil showed his toughness by scrambling for first downs and taking hits while playing on a hurting ankle.
It's worth mentioning that Jones played his best game without three of his top wide receivers, Kadarius Toney, Wan’Dale Robinson, and Kenny Golladay. WR Sterling Shepard has already been ruled out for the season after tearing his ACL in the closing minutes of Week 3.
Running back Saquon Barkley added 106 yards from scrimmage to his NFL-leading total. Barkley had 13 carries for 70 yards including a wildcat touchdown. He continues to put his best foot forward in the race for comeback player of the year. The fifth-year RB is coming off two seasons riddled with injury, but Barkley appears back to 100%.
everywhereThe Giants' defense looks its best since 2016, holding opponents to under 19 points per game. Pass rushers Dexter Lawrence and Oshane Ximines recorded a sack each. Defensive end Kayvon Thibodeaux left his mark by batting down two passes late in the game; The second came on a third and two with under 90 seconds left.
This football team has taken on the personality of its first-year head coach, Brian Daboll. Daboll has brought the team energy and grit that previous head coaches have seriously lacked. As he ran off the field after the win, Daboll pumped up Giants fans who made the trip across the pond. The season is far from over, but Brian Daboll is a name to watch in the coach of the year race.
The Giants will return home next week to take on Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens. The game is set to kick off at 1 pm ET as New York looks to keep their incredible start going.
Looks like the Giants may be better than predicted. Nice work reporting.
Thumbs up to you.
